Emotional Awareness:  Overcoming the Obstacles to Emotional Balance and Compassion

As we approach the Christmas Holiday, I wanted to share with you a book I recently read.

The Book is called Emotional Awareness:  Overcoming the Obstacles to Emotional Balance and Compassion.  It’s an enlightening and entertaining read written by Paul Ekman.

Paul Ekman is best known for his work on facial expressions and body language, but he has also has had a life-long interest in emotions.  His work and research on emotional awareness comes to life in this book.

The book is essentially a transcript of a conversation Dr. Ekman has with the Dalai Lama over a three day period.

I loved this book because of the sheer candor and honesty these two great men share.

Dr. Ekman shares personally revealing bits about his own emotional state and the relationship he had with his Father.  I hesitate to share that I felt a kinship with Dr. Ekman as he revealed the emotionally painful relationship from his youth.

Above all else, the conversation is a candid, uplifting, and eye-opening discussion on how we can all overcome our own emotional obstacles and find balance in our lives.

As Christmas week approaches, I highly recommend this read for you and yours.
